Surrounded by the waters of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay, the Point Loma peninsula is the breezy sentinel overlooking the gateway to America’s Finest City. Point Loma is a beautiful seaside community that combines the charm of early San Diego with the warmth of a small town seaport. Point Loma is centrally located and outside the mainstream traffic of greater San Diego, this portside community is just five minutes from downtown; and two minutes from the international airport at Lindbergh Field.
Point Loma is aptly named considering most of its topography consists of sloping hillside terrain. The Spanish word for hill is loma. Blessed with views of ocean, bay, city, and mountains, the Peninsula is one of the Southland’s most unique locations. The area’s natural beauty and genteel neighborhoods make Point Loma a highly desired place to visit or reside.
Aside from the gorgeous views, the main highlight at Point Loma is the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, located at Cabrillo National Monument. This lighthouse guided sailors safely in from 1855 to 1891. Stop by and check out this amazing piece of history as the park is open 365 days a year, including all weekends and holidays, from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM. Also, experience the annual migration of the Pacific Gray Whale as these majestic mammals pass by the park from December through February.
